Our Virtues in Practice program comes from the Nashville Dominicans. The whole school studies the same virtue each month. Over a three-year cycle, our students study twenty-seven different virtues. As they move through the program, they will grow familiar with eighty-one saints who are held up as models of the virtues.
Below is a brief description of the focus of the year and the virtue of the month. Underneath are found biographies of the Saints the students will learn about this month as well as discussion questions that can be used by the families to reinforce the learning at home.
"Pray daily, fast daily, work daily, and study daily." -Saint Columbanus
It was upon this quote that Matt sought to model his life. Matt Talbot was a small but strong man who overcame alcoholism by prayer, penance, and the virtue of temperance.
Mass was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1856. His mother and father had twelve children and worked very hard. Matt's father took jobs wherever he could, and the family often had to move. In those days, school was not mandatory in Ireland. Matt did not like to go to school, so he instead chose to find work.
