Math
Using Singapore math, which was developed in the 1980s in Singapore and has consistently ranked at the top of international math testing, our K-6 students are taught mathematics with a focus towards mastery. This is achieved through intentional sequencing of concepts that instills a deep appreciation for mathematics. Understanding that math is the well-ordered language of the cosmos, students are encouraged to think mathematically to become successful and confident problem solvers.
Concepts are first introduced in a tangible way that progresses to increasing levels of abstraction and ultimately builds fluency with mental math.
In seventh grade, students are tracked into two branches of mathematics depending upon their academic successes and interests. Students in seventh and eighth grades master the fundamentals and foundations of algebra respectively through Sadlier-Oxford’s program of study. In our advanced track, seventh graders study the foundations of algebra before going on to Math I in eighth grade.
