The humane letters course forms the heart of the classical school. Combining history, literature, philosophy, and composition, this seminar-style class teaches students the holistic nature of subjects. Guided by their teacher, who models master learning, students read and discuss the great books and delve into primary sources. Students enter a rich, vibrant dialogue with the greatest minds of western civilization, their peers, and their teachers that celebrates beauty, promotes the good, and extols Truth.
Students return once more to the cycle they began in first grade, solidifying their understanding and appreciation for the history of humanity in the ancient year, followed by the medieval year, then the modern European year, and finally culminating in the American year. By gradually increasing the depth of their experience, we hope our students will see the purpose to which all human existence treads–to be happy with God forever in heaven–and embark upon the path they must take to glorify God with their lives.
