Using Classical Academic Press’s Song School Spanish, and later their Spanish for Children series, first through fourth grade students are introduced to the Spanish language in a joyful, collaborative experience that builds bonds and increases their appreciation for other cultures. Students finish their Spanish studies with an elementary proficiency in speaking and writing that will serve them well in their community.
Beginning in fifth grade, students embark upon a study of Latin using Classical Academic Press’s Latin for Children series and Memoria Press’s First and Second Form Latin. Despite popular belief, Latin has never truly died. Rather, it evolved into the Romance languages, which draw approximately ninety percent of their vocabulary from Latin. Not only does Latin form a bridge between the six Romance languages and lay a groundwork for the future study of them, but it also forms the basis for about half of our English language. Through a study of Latin, students increase their vocabulary and grammatical skills. It is the goal of our Latin program that students gain sufficient proficiency in the language to read some of the greatest western authors in their own tongue.
